Ekhtibary: Arabic Assessments for 1,000+ Students at Once

Ekhtibary is an Arabic assessment platform for schools. I built its backend from scratch on PostgreSQL and led the team that shipped it with a React front end. It ran a live test with 1,000+ students at the same time.

The problem

Schools needed one place to set and run Arabic tests, and to see the results. A test is a hard load pattern: the students start together and submit together. A slow save during a live test is not a small delay. It is a student who waits in front of the class.

The platform also had to fit how schools already work: a school has teachers, and teachers have classes of students. Each role sees different data.

How it works

• One backend on PostgreSQL. I wrote the backend from the first line. PostgreSQL holds the question bank, the tests, and every answer.
• Roles that match the school. Schools, teachers, and students each have their own role and their own view of the data.
• Question types beyond multiple choice. Teachers build tests with multiple choice, ordering, and story questions. The bank covers Arabic language, social studies, and Islamic education.
• Reports from the answers. Teachers and schools see each student's results as reports and charts.
• Any device. Students take tests on the web and on mobile.

Result

• A live test with 1,000+ concurrent students on the backend I built.
• As Lead Software Engineer, I then designed the AI portal for Ekhtibary: assessment generation, voice cloning, and dynamic reporting.

My role

Backend developer and team lead at YH&H, first as Senior Software Engineer (2022 to 2023), then as Lead Software Engineer. I designed the data model and the API, wrote the backend, and coordinated the front-end work.
